Galatians
1:8 (NASB)
8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach
to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to
be accursed!
Thought for today – There is only one gospel, and it does not
change.
This verse and the one that follows it use extremely harsh
language because the purity and clarity of the gospel are so important.
The word translated “accursed” signifies someone who is banned and dedicated to
the judgement of the Lord. The gospel is so important that anyone or
anything that would contradict, distort, or diminish its truth is to be
rejected from the congregation. Paul wisely anticipated the reality that
even some of those who preached the gospel at the beginning would drift away
from the truth, and some in order to gain an audience would claim that their
distortions came from Paul or one of his associates or even from “angelic”
messengers. These false teachers are to be accursed!
That’s what the Book says!
